Did you know...
that Jesus was listening and talking with religious teachers when He was twelve years old?
This story is about Jesus going to the Temple.
Jesus grew up in the city of Nazareth with his mother Mary and father Joseph. One day, when He was twelve years old, his parents went to Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of the Passover like they did every year. This was a very large festival and many, many people came to it.
When Passover ended, Mary and Joseph, along with others in their group, returned home. They thought that Jesus was walking with his friends amongst the other travelers. That evening, they couldn't find Him.
When they noticed Jesus missing, they looked for Him among their relatives and friends. When they couldn’t find Him, they returned to Jerusalem.
After three days of searching, they found him! Jesus was in the temple sitting with the religious teachers, listening to them and asking them deep questions.
All who heard Jesus were amazed by His understanding and answers.
Mary asked Jesus, “Why have you behaved this way? We have been looking for you and worrying.”
Jesus answered her, “Why did you need to look for me? You should have known that I would be in my Father’s house, doing what He wants me to do.” Jesus, was of course, referring to his father, God, but Mary and Joseph did not understand this.
Jesus returned to Nazareth with Mary and Joseph and was obedient to them. Mary remembered this event and kept it in her heart.
As Jesus grew up he got more and more wise. He was loved by God and by all who knew him.
